Wood County CodeRED

Wood County has an Emergency Telephone Calling System named “CODE RED”.  This calling system has the capability to call every phone number registered in our database within a short period of time, or targeted areas as needed in the event of an emergency.  The calling system is used for Emergency Communication to county residents and can be triggered by personnel from several emergency response agencies within the county.  Along with emergency and critical messages, the CodeRED notification system will also enhance community engagement via the release of important but non-emergency information such as road closures and trash collection schedule changes, snow plow schedules and other county services.  The phone numbers called are the ones recorded in a database of Wood County telephones.

You can sign up to receive CodeRED Alerts and CodeRED Weather Warnings by clicking the logo below.  CodeRED Alerts and CodeRED Weather Warnings send notification to those that are in the path of incoming severe weather or may be affected by some other emergency situation. The calls are placed directly to your home or cell phone number based on the address you have registered in the database.

Each resident of Wood County can add additional phone numbers to the data base to be sure they are contacted if a call is placed to notify them of an emergency situation.  Your street/road address is very important so a call will only be placed to you if your address is affected by the emergency condition.  By using this capability, you can add not just your home number but a cell phone number if you would like to receive the call and text messages.  Citizens can also register an email address for alerts to be sent to.

You can opt in to receive CodeRED Weather Warnings.  CodeRED Weather Warnings are alerts that are sent to the numbers in our database in the event of severe weather. When the National Weather Service issues a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, Tornado Warning or Flash Flood Warning you will receive an emergency phone call only if you are in the projected path of the storm.  In the event of a Severe Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service, alerts are sent via email and text.

If at any time you have difficulty registering your phone numbers or have questions about CodeRED feel free to contact the Wood County EMA Office at 419-354-9269.
