Press Release – Scam October 24, 2018

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has had several reports of a phone scam today, Wednesday October 24, 2018. The scam reports consist of information reported that a “Deputy Jason Walker” of the Sheriff’s office is calling and threatening people that they have missed their jury duty and they are to get in their car and drive to the sheriff’s office to pay the deputy to avoid embarrassment of showing up and getting escorted in handcuffs.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office will never call and request payment of any kind. This current reported scam seems to be targeting those in the medical profession.
If you receive one of these calls, simply hang up as it is a scam. If you have experienced a call such as this and have given personal information to the caller, please call 419-354-9001 to report the incident.
