The Wood County Justice Center.
An inspection held in February found that the Wood County Justice Center was found to be a “compliant jail” under the Ohio Revised Code.
According to a letter from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction provided by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, the ODRC found the jail to be in compliance with 100 percent of the important standards and 100 percent of the essential standards for the 2015 on-site inspection, conducted Feb. 18-19.
The inspection assessed compliance on a group of 115 standards, with focuses on inspection and release, classification, security, housing, sanitation and environmental conditions, communication, visitation, medical, food service, recreation, inmate discipline, administrative segregation, grievance, staffing and staff training.
The inspection, according to a letter from the ODRC, “consisted of the inspector receiving and/or reviewing requested documentation and/or materials, touring selected areas of the jail, and having a brief interview with Jail Administrator Captain (Ronda) Gibson.”
The jail has a total housing capacity of 220; there were 122 inmates in the jail at the time of inspection, according to the letter.
A release from the sheriff’s office stated that “operating and working in a jail is (a) very challenging profession especially with all the renovation and expansion of the jail we had last year, along with a larger than normal population with mental health issues and detoxing in the jail.”
