Director of Court House Security

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified candidates to fill the new position of Director of Court House Security. The successful candidate should meet the following requirements:

  • Ability to work full time/flexible hours
  • Ability to supervise and schedule part time personnel
  • Ability to assess and implement security enhancements
  • Knowledge of security processes and prevention measures
  • Strong communication and personal relationship skills
  • Strong public speaking abilities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ohio Peace Officer Certified (OPOTA)
  • Law Enforcement Experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to pass a background investigation, physical and psychological exam, and drug screen
  • Fulfill the following job duties:
    • Respond to any and all calls for service within the courthouse complex grounds and Public Defenders Office
    • Lead educational and other courthouse tours as requested or scheduled
    • Respond to alarms, including afterhours court complex alarms
    • Planning and scheduling required and supplemental continuing education for employees
    • Liaison between Sheriff’s Office, Justice Center, and courthouse complex to include all elected officials and employees
    • Scheduling and supervision of personnel
    • Any other assigned duties

The position is fiduciary with a starting wage of $63,000 to $66,000/yr. including Health, Prescription, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance.  The Director’s position will be eligible to be part of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).

Courthouse Complex Deputy

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Part-time Courthouse Complex Deputy.  The successful candidate should meet the following requirements:

  • Ability to work part-time/flexible hours
  • Ohio Peace Officer certified
  • Preserve the peace within the courthouse complex, grounds and Public Defender’s Office
  • Assist Court Constables as needed
  • Scan and check community members and employees entering the courthouse complex as well as check all packages and handbags.
  • Assist visitors entering the facility
  • Ability to communicate directions to those unfamiliar with the Courthouse Complex
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift packages
  • Assist with tours and other special functions as requested
  • Polite, Courteous, and Friendly personality
  • Ability to get along with elected officials, county employees, and community members
  • Perform law enforcement functions as needed
  • Must be able to maintain certifications by attending and passing all annual re-certification courses
  • Valid Driver’s License

The position is a part-time, classified, non-exempt position with a starting wage of $18.71/hr. Part-time employees working less than 30 hrs/wk are not eligible for benefits.  Credit will be given to Wood County employees currently employed as County Constables for time in County service.
