Sheriff Auxiliary

The Wood County Sheriff’s Auxiliary consists of 45-50 volunteers who donate their time to help the Sheriff of Wood County. The Auxiliary is coordinated by a committee of six special deputies. The Auxiliary is a self-run organization that controls its own funds, and works closely with the Sheriff to assist in any time of need. Usually they assist the citizens of Wood County, and sometimes they assist neighboring counties.
The Sheriff’s Auxiliary assists the Sheriff in working the Wood County Fair, MS Bike to the Bay, ADA Tour De Cure, Luckey Festival, Weston Days, Apple Butter Fest, Stoney Ridge Fest, South of the Border Festival, and other festivals throughout Wood County. The Auxiliary has donated numerous funds to the D.A.R.E. program, to families of officers killed in the line of duty, to the Explorer program, and to young children who suffer from incurable diseases.

The Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary members wear the same uniform as full-time Deputies. Some members of the Auxiliary are certified peace officers through the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy. Others are not certified peace officers but still do important work for the Sheriff’s Office. Auxiliary officers also occasionally ride-along with regular road patrol deputies to gain knowledge and experience. The Sheriff’s Auxiliary has helped young law enforcement officers prepare for law enforcement jobs throughout Ohio.

Members of the Auxiliary are required to perform 60 hours of volunteer work each year. A thorough background check is completed on all applicants, and final approval is made by Sheriff Wasylyshyn. All members serve at the will of the Sheriff. You must be at least 21 years of age and a resident of Wood County.
